You may be wondering how late you can actually plant  allium bulbs, and still have beautiful spring blooms to look forward to.

Allium bulbs are usually planted out in the fall, so the bulbs will be exposed to a cold chill period throughout the winter months.

If you plant the bulbs into the ground at the right depth, before the hard frosts set in, and the ground becomes covered in snow, the bulbs should be okay.

The best time to plant is when the weather gets cold, and there are at least 12 weeks of expected cold weather before spring.

As a general rule of thumb, allium bulbs should be planted at a depth equivalent to 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb.

Choose a sunny spot for planting for the best flowering results. For a successful allium patch, a full sun location is ideal.

If the bulbs were planted very late and they do not bloom, the good news is that the bulbs will gather energy over the summer months.
